Yup! Seattle sits between some of the largest volcanos in the Lower 48, including Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Glacier Peak, Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens.

I only had to read the tagline for a little "yay!" to come out of my mouth. First the Seattle area championed bio-swales in place of conventional residential sidewalks and now this. My city (and many others) continue to have no excuse for their lack of innovation and, perhaps more importantly, someone to look to to show them the way. I hope this becomes a raging success.

This sounds like a fascinating initiative in Seattle. I'm curious to see how this works, and will certainly be keeping my eye on this. The introduction of new zoning laws to accommodate urban agriculture sounds fascinating. The Pacific Northwest is just teeming with motivation to improve human and environmental sustainability.

I also spent some time in Egypt (though far less time—approx. five months, living in Zamalek and studying at AUC) recently, and it inspired an interest in urban farming and city planning. (Ironically, I had intended to work in the interfaith relations and Middle East affairs, prior to the experience.) It's neat to see someone with as diverse interests writing about these new local food initiatives!
