I've long thought that programs like AmeriCorps Vista and Teach for America could be expanded into other realms of public life. I've long thought a "Farm for America" program should be implemented. Perhaps a "Treat for America" program could be devised to put young doctors fresh out of medical school into small towns and rural areas where healthcare is limited. Especially where small hospitals are located, this could be a really great way to help get quality healthcare into rural areas and help med students pay off their massive student loan bills.

No new social program can be "budget neutral." Anyone with any sense knows that you can't get something for nothing. But we can be sensible about it if we try hard enough.
