I agree with Rick. We have to be our own agents of change and vote with our dollar and buy and demand organic, sustainable and humanely raised foods. Without action by the people, talking about all this stuff is fruitless. If your grocery store, farmers market or wherever you shop for your groceries does not carry sustainably grown foods, talk to the manager, store owner, farmer whom ever and ask for it. Change begins with each one of us.

The lack of federal action moves many State players to try to make change on their own. It was the efforts of Connecticut's attorney general, in part, that caused the industry-driven "Smart Label" to go under. State laws changing the way factory farms do business are evolving and battery cages, veal crates and pig gestation cages may be historic remnants one day. And, grassroots efforts for more truth-in-labeling laws are beginning to take hold. I predict that within a few years, factory egg producers will have to label their eggs "color added" if they use feed additives to turn their yolks more yellow (as about 95% of them do). We can't count on the President or the federal government to make all the changes needed. Sometimes, we have to be our own agents of change.
