I agree. He may have been unappreciated for many years. But I believe that later, he had students who lived with him and learned from him. And he has his many admirers now who read his books and call him a hero. I am one of them :)

From my perspective, I think there's a kind of sadness to a life lived fighting a one man battle in near total isolation. But as I said, I also think it's an inspiring book.

I do not think Fukuoka's book is sad at all. Sadness accompanied his rejection of modern methods, but his discoveries are euphoric to read about--you mean that simple, natural methods can really work? That tons of chemicals and expensive equipment is not necessary for extremely high yields?

He is a true hero to me. He spent his whole life experimenting with methods that people probably thought were crazy. This book is an opportunity for us to glean some of his wisdom.

The best way is the way of nature and simplicity. The best news I can think of.

"Natural farming is not just for growing crops, it is for the cultivation and perfection of human beings."--M. Fukuoka
