Thanks Jeffrey for forcing his hand--he was pretty good at softballing answers that day and on this one he wasn't able to evade sharing his actual stance on this issue. Disappointing to say the least.

Too bad he could not have attended the entire conference, IAASTD report and all, and formed his own opinion--instead of what "poeple tell him."

The problem with an open mind is that it is open... even to positions you may disagree with. I'm not a big GMO fan: I think that they have been grossly overhyped and and have demonstrably failed to deliver on their supposed potential. But I do think it is ironic that Sec. Vilsack is being charged with not having an open mind, because he has not closed his mind to GMOs altogether.

That being said, kudos to you for putting the question before him so succinctly. It is an issue sorely in need of informed discussion.

GMO's really have nothing to do with feeding the world, they're really about feeding the bank accounts of certain peopler/corporations. Sadly, they have some people fooled though. Perhaps if we had some campaign finance reform we wouldn't have politicians (on any side) so funded by these corporations to write policies to favor them.
