Thank you for this excellent article that really gets to the heart of the CAFO issue. Instead of just focusing on all the problems you present some real solutions.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jennifer.

Where are you getting these facts you are throwing out? Producing more meat means more emissions, full stop -- whether in CAFOs or on pasture. The former enables us to produce more, and thus more emissions. The latter happens to be more humane, and enables manure to be more properly distributed on the land instead of becoming cesspools. It seems to me that you aren't seeing the whole picture. Keeping animals in confined spaces produces the conditions under which food safety issues abound.

Next time you comment here on our site, please link to the sources upholding your arguments, or we will have to assume they were pulled out of thin air.

I want to share that i think your article is misinformed and irresponsible. The FACT is that the conventional method of feeding cattle using CAFO's produces 40% fewer emissions and uses 2/3 less land than organic or grass-finished feeding programs. Many of these CAFO's have environmental engineers on staff to monitor daily water and air quality along with land utilization. The animals are handled in ways to decrease stress and promote healthy lives. If you focus only on the VERY few poorly run operations and don't give the whole picture, you are contributing to the animosity that already exists toward animal agriculture. It is an important part of the US economy, and is the livelihood of over 800,000 american families.
