The topic of sustainable local foods in desert environments cannot be contemplated separately from the issue of water. I live in southern Nevada, the Mojave desert region. Water is a HUGE issue there. Southern Nevada (read: Las Vegas) wastes water terribly, leaving residents and wildlife in a precarious situation.

Dear Kristen
It was so nice to hear of your uses of desert plants. I am partner in the mesquite flour division of Casa de Fruta importing USDA organic, Kosher mesquite bean flour produced by a very poor Dioceses in Argentina. If you send me your email I will send you a brochure about our mesquite flour. I think you can find our mesquite flour in Native Seed Search and most wholefoods in Arizona
