I love this look at your own food shopping, which is close to my own ideal (though I end up at the Whole Foods more often than I would like!). Having moved in recent years from Saint Paul, Minnesota, to the Boston area, I was saddened to find that the stores and meager farmer's markets here did not live up to the wealth of food co-ops and markets in the Twin Cities. But I've been gradually gathering the patches of my own local foodways quilt together, and becoming a better "food citizen" in the process. We're all works-in-progress!

I'm glad to hear you don't obsess over your food. It sounds like you are in a similar boat to us. We buy meat, poultry, eggs, and raw dairy from local farmers. Our veggies and fruits are a mix of CSA and grocery store produce. And we generally try to prepare all our own food at home, according to more traditional methods of food preparation.

That said, we never turn our nose up at the food our friends and family offer to us, and we give ourselves the freedom to break our rules for the odd occasion.

We try to strike a balance like yours.

Thanks for sharing,
